In the 1970s, when Paul Volcker was cranking up interest rates to kill off inflation, he could do that because the size of the federal debt was only about 30% of the GDP at the time. Today, the federal debt is about 130% of GDP. No matter what Jerome Powell’s intentions are, even if he has the same fortitude as Volcker had in fighting inflation, he just doesn’t have the tools. In fact, he has nothing he can really do. Our guest this week on Retirement Lifestyle Advocates radio is Brien Lundin. Join your host, Dennis Tubbergen, as he and Brien discuss the fate of the dollar as the reserve currency, an international return to a gold standard, and the current state of world markets.
Brien Lundin is the President and CEO of Jefferson Financial, editor and publisher of Gold Newsletter, a publication that has ranked among the world’s leading precious metals and resource stock advisories since 1971 and is also the host of the famed New Orleans Investment Conference, the world’s oldest and most respected gold investment event.
The central banks themselves are in trouble. The crisis that we now face is potentially a lot more severe than anything we have seen since the Wall Street crash in 1929 to 1932, and the aftermath of that in the 1930s. A quite sobering statement from our guest this week, Mr. Alasdair Macleod. Your host on Retirement Lifestyle Advocates radio, Dennis Tubbergen, talks with Macleod about what’s happening at the central banks and the potential outcomes that lay ahead.
Alasdair Macleod is the head of research at Gold Money Holding, a well-respected author, and a noted expert in world economics. Mr. Macleod has been a celebrated stockbroker and Member of the London Stock Exchange for over four decades. The markets are down over 20 percent this year, but it’s only the beginning according to our guest this week on Retirement Lifestyle Advocates radio, Mr. Michael Oliver. “We’re talking about a 12-year plus bull market that went vertical on the S&P, sevenfold increase due to monetary policy and credit, and a 16-fold increase in the Nasdaq-100. Those sort of bull markets you’ve never seen in the history of the United States. Your host Dennis Tubbergen talks with Mr. Oliver about the markets, and why gold doesn’t behave like other commodities.
Michael Oliver has been studying markets for over four decades, but it was the 1987 stock market crash that became his “aha!” moment and converted him to what he calls “momentum structural analysis.” Mr. Oliver is the CEO of Momentum Structural Analysis LLC based in Greensboro, North Carolina. He is also the author of The New Libertarianism: Anarcho-Capitalism. Since 1992 Momentum Structural Analysis has provided unique technical research to the financial industry – banks, RIAs, hedge funds, and mutual funds – as well as to individual investors.
What the fed has to do is to sacrifice the currency to avoid a 1930s-style depression. They’re going to almost explicitly say, “We’re going to let the dollar fall as far as it has to fall. We’ve got to protect jobs, et cetera, et cetera. We can’t let the economy just go completely bust. So, if we have to have eight, nine, or 10% inflation forever, we’ll just have to accept that as the least bad in a menu of bad options.” Retirement Lifestyle Advocates Radio welcomes back to the show this week our guest, John Rubino. Your host, Dennis Tubbergen talks with John about the economy, currency, Bitcoin, and how the latest decisions from Washington may impact the future.
John Rubino is the founder of the financial website DollarCollapse.com. He is the co-author, with Gold Money’s James Turk, of The Money Bubble, The Collapse of the Dollar and How to Profit from It, and author of Clean Money: Picking Winners in the Green-Tech Boom. During the 1990s he was a featured columnist with TheStreet.com and a frequent contributor to Individual Investor, Online Investor, and Consumers Digest, among many other publications.
“The government should quit monkeying with the economy like they’re God; they don’t understand it. They don’t even understand the demographics behind it, the productivity behind it, and what causes it to go up and down. They just think interest rates are the biggest driver, which shows how clueless they are”. That quote is directly from our guest this week on Retirement Lifestyle Advocates radio, Mr. Harry Dent. Join your host Dennis Tubbergen as he gets Harry’s forecast and perspective on what is happening today and what’s ahead for the economy.

Could we be looking at the peak in the markets? Many have been forecasting a market crash for years that the Fed has so far been able to forestall through money printing. When it comes to managing the federal budget, government officials only have three choices. These are the same three choices that governments through the world and through the centuries have always had; raise taxes, cut spending, or debase the currency (print money). Join your host Dennis Tubbergen on this week’s Special Edition of Retirement Lifestyle Advocates radio where he looks at the prospects for these three options, why each one is a bad choice, and how you might protect your dreams of a secure, stress-free retirement.
